“ Another residential development which has a certain uniqueness about it, and has been concerned to blend in with the surrounding natural ecology is Noosa Parklands. This area was developed in the 1980’s by United Dominions Company Ltd, with the first plan, that of Palmer Crescent section, being sealed by Noosa Shire Council in February 1980. In essence the developers have been at pains to retain corridors of natural forest separating groups of allotments within the development and this allows indigenous fauna to move freely from area to area: indeed a formal vegetation study was carried out with this in mind when the development was first planned. Noosa Parklands also contains a system of walkways and foot bridges to allow pedestrian or cycle traffic to make use of what is a natural wetlands area, complete with lagoons and water lillies.”

The lagoon (Lilly Pond) is now a solid mass of salvinia weed covered in dead palm fronds which would normally be flushed away by rain events. It is claimed that four attempts have been made to tackle the problem by deploying weevils and all efforts have failed. Why is this so? Does this mean that it can't be done in Noosa?
'A band of little helpers are successfully tackling a water weed infestation at Hinze Dam on the Gold Coast.
The Salvinia molesta, a free-floating aquatic fern which poses a serious threat to our waterways, is being attacked by an ant-sized weevil as part of Seqwater’s biosecurity program.'

The lagoon is now a swamp of Salvinia and Paragrass
